Customization Features

So, has anyone gotten a chance to play with the customization features of HF4 yet?

If so, How good are they?

They Rock! But I am bias.

The best way to forge that opinion is if you download a copy and try them out for yourself. Then you can tell everyone what you think.

I would certainly consider that but I don't care much for the current pricing model.

$35 a YEAR.

I just cannot see paying a subscription for what is essentially a utility program.
The only reason that I subscribe to DDI is that it includes the magazine subscriptions.

A subscription for this is essentially like MS asking for a subscription to use fully use Word.

Now don't get me wrong, I am NOT advocating that you just give this away. You all worked very hard on this program and anyone who thinks they should get good stuff for free fails economics forever.

I would think that something along the lines of a flat fee to download or for a license, and then maybe even a micropayment for updates.

After looking over the customization a bit it looks like I could do my own updates, I would then be paying for the convience of not having to do it myself which IS a reasonable expense.

I really like the look of this product and think that I could continue to use it for years but I can't justify paying a subscription price for what is essentially productivity software for character creation.

Our decision to go with this price model is simple. You pay once a year or 6 months or 3 months and you get access to newest version of the app available through the life of the subscription. We only have to work on one version of the app and you get to stay updated. Our current update release schedule is an update at least every 2 months so at least 6 a year. We hope to get this to once a month but for now real life only allows for 6 a year. So we feel that it is worth that.

I mean normally you buy an app and you get maybe the bug fixes for free when they feel like getting to them and you have to shell out again for the Updated version to get the new features. So in the end you are still paying to stay updated at least once a year. This way you get not only bug fixes but access to all the new features without having to hand out more cash 6 + times a year. $35 once a year is better than say $25 for the core app and say $10 an update x6.

And for the record I would rather pay MS a subscription to stay up to date with the newest version than shell out $600+ every few years for Office. Heck even Windows for that matter.

I have more than a couple subscription based services so I am used to this pricing approach. But not everyone has the same opinion on them.
